Yaga! It’s your boy,  Wizzy’s birthday today and 360NoBS is celebrating with 26 of Starboy’s Biggest Collaborations!

Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun is popularly known as Wizkid or wizzy baby, the head honcho of Starboy Entertainment and Starboy Worldwide.

Nigeria’s biggest entertainment export is your hit maker, its no wonder everyone wants a piece of him – music wise or otherwise (there are baby mamas to prove this).

From his first major collaboration with Mister Incredible on Fast Money Fast Cars to Roll it with Akon & Banky W to his most recent banger with fellow entertainer, Chris Brown, Trey Songz and French Montana on Shabba, the Starboy lives up to his moniker.

The saying of whatever he touches turns to gold, was created for him. There is hardly any song with Wizkid that doesn’t become a ‘hot hit’.

Drake has the numbers on ‘One Dance’ to prove it as their joint effort together with Kyala on probably one of the biggest collaborations of 2016 (so far and we doubt there’s going to be another  that would upstage it) has ruled the billboard charts for 14 consecutive weeks.

From Surulere to Joburg to London to Dominican Republic, the Ojuelegba crooner has been delivering hits non-stop. He has sang with some of the biggest names and dropped his hook on every genre besides possibly rock.

His voice rings in your ears, you have no choice but to groove that’s why artists keep going back to him for that feel good music.

Tiwa Savage and Wizkid did their ‘thang’ on the recently released video for Bad but their fans aren’t feeling the badness one bit.

The audio version was lit and everyone looked forward to the visuals with high expectations.

It seems those expectations from Tiwa Savage were a tad bit too high as feedback on the video hasn’t been really good.

Also was Tiwa Savage saying “Better than bad you know” or “Better than var-gi-nal” as we did try to listen in and we are a bit confused.

We aren’t alone as others are asking the same question.

  • allwell ugwu – Wizkid is good but don’t overhype… him.. he is the best currently but common u can’t compare him with the twin brothers..
  • Vani Blues – This song is just there, nothing amazing, only going to sell cuz its wizkid and tiwa, will it sell if it was VIC O and eva Alordiah?
  • Mbuina Michael – I won’t say they didn’t do a great job but it’s like they were not into the song like they could have made it beautiful than this though it’s a nice one.

Tim Westwood Calls Wizkid “One Of The Greatest Artists I Have Ever Seen”

Tim Westwood, is undoubtedly one of the most important disc jockeys and radio personalities in the UK and he’s talking about African music influencing UK rap artists, his perception of Wizkid as a G.O.A.T and the three artists who left a lasting impression on him.

For the last three decades, Westwood’s praises have been sung from the “superstars of the late 1980s to the titans of the 1990s, and the upstarts of the aughts.”

As a matter of rap-fact, you aren’t a rap sensation or any sensation if you haven’t been on Tim Westwood’s show.

That’s why Snoop Dogg said, “You can’t come to the Kingdom and not see the prince,” referencing Westwood’s reign as the prince of hip-hop DJing.

Tim Westwood calls Wizkid his G.O.A.T

In a powwow with XXL magazine, the iconic DJ who have anchored the No. 1 urban show on BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra for nearly 20 years said, “In the U.K., the rise of Afrobeats, which is African music from Nigeria, from Ghana and from the U.K. and that’s really powerful and that’s also influencing a lot of U.K. rap artist’s style that’s a super powerful thing out here.”

“Obviously Drake cosigned Wizkid, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg, but Wizkid is certainly one of the greatest artists I’ve ever seen.” Tim confessed.

Wizkid is a legend to Tim Westwood

Tim Westwood calls Wizzy one of his greatest of all time, that’s a plus for the Nigerian sensation.

On the three enigmas who left a mark on his heart throughout his career, he said, “I would definitely say Biggie because that was such a defining moment in hip-hop. Tupac because of what he meant. Tupac resonates beyond belief. And then I would think if there was a third, I would say Drake because of what Drake is doing. Drake is changing hip-hop and making it so big.”

Dr Sid Lists Wizkid, Davido, Tiwa Savage, Korede Bello And Seyi Shay As Stars Shaping Nigerian Music

Dr Sid tips off several artists whom he believes have been significant in positioning African music, aptly dubbed “the new sound”.

During an interview organized by Boiler Room in collaboration with the British Council alongside DJ Jimmy Jatt and Don Jazzy, Dr Sid proudly talked about Wizkid’s influence on scene. Read the excerpt from the interview below:

“We are very proud of Wizkid for what he has done and what he is doing. He has actually put Nigerian music on the map.”

Listing a few others whom the singer posits can represent the country internationally, he continued, “Tomorrow it could be Davido, next tomorrow, it could be Korede Bello, Tiwa Savage, Seyi Shay. They are all artistes that are getting recognized now in the music that they do in Africa.”

“What we need is to get the music on bigger platforms, proper global distributions, proper radio placement. If you wanna break the sound, you can actually say, “You know what? Every day on BBC or hot97, we are gonna play you music from Africa because that is the new sound”.

Dr Sid sounded very proud of his heritage as he said, “For me, what is most important is sound and the core element of the sound remains African.”

Although expressed distraught at he slow-pace at which the world was coming to terms with the acceptance of the continents style of music, Dr Sid declared, “It is taking longer for the world to actually recognize it but that is the new sound. Dance is there, electronic music is there, hip hop is there but the African sound is different, it is groovy and it makes you wanna move. You can see the infusion of that coming in a lot of songs than you actually know have African influence.”

African music especially those from Nigeria is very influential internationally. We just have to pay more attention to better production and especially better lyrics and we’ll be closer to the recognition  we seek.

Wizkid releases a double dose of  Remixes as he refixes Young Thug, Travis Scott and Quavo’s hit single “Pick Up The Phone“.

Following the release of a surprise ‘refix’ for Kent Jones’ debut hit single, ‘Don’t Mind’ which Starboy Wizzy named ‘Remind Dat’ is another refix for another hit.

”Pick up the Phone which happens To be the fifth collaboration between Travis Scott and Young Thug, following Rodeo standout “Maria I’m Drunk,” the Soundcloud single “Nothing But Net,” and Days Before Rodeo’s “Skyfall” and “Mamacita.” It’s interesting to note that Scott has never featured on a Young Thug song.

The song entails;- While they all want to be faithful and stay committed to this girl, she won’t show her love in return, refusing to pick up the phone—even while she’s not busy. refusing to pick up the phone—even while she’s not busy.

Sweat is a remix to LL Cool J’s classic 1996 single “Doin’ It” featuring LeShaun. Wizkid retains the groovy tempo with an Afrobeats/Island twist.

The Starboy drops his sexy version of this classic party tune in just 2:57mins.

Smartly, he doesn’t touch the original, he just lays his own freestyle over the beat with a bit of yoruba coming through.

Doin It” is the second single from LL Cool J’s sixth album, Mr. Smith, and was released on February 1996 for Def Jam Recordings. Based on a sample of Grace Jones’ “My Jamaican Guy”, it also featured LeShaun (who previously released a song with the same sample and theme in 1993 titled “Wild Thang”), production from Rashad “Ringo” Smith and LL Cool J.

“Doin It” was a success for LL Cool J, making it to #9 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #7 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs Billboard charts. On the B-side was the previous single, “Hey Lover”.

The remix featured on the soundtrack to The Nutty Professor samples the Art of Noise’s “Moments in Love.”

For Wizkid having much interest to jam up this tune with massive Konto Feel, it creates a new vibe to the new school music listeners.

This is the third refix from Wizzy baby in one day.  Why is he teasing us, what’s he about to drop? Another ‘expensive shit’?

Listen/Enjoy/Download this new track below and don’t miss out on the other ‘refixes’.

In an interview with Billboard and W magazine, the Roc Nation signee said Kevin Garret, an amazing writer who co-wrote Beyonce’s  “Pray You Catch Me” from Lemonade album presented “U Don’t Know” to her.

Justine loved the Chris Loco produced song immediately. The producer behind some of  Emeli Sandé, Tinie Tempah, and Rita Ora’s songs.

“U Don’t Know” was written in the 21-year-old’s home country Jamaica which made the song a perfect choice for her. Also her love for Afrobeats and friendship with Wizkid made it easy to bring him into the song.

Justine Skye Reveals Inspiration To “U Don’t Know” Featuring Wizkid to W Magazine

She said:

Kevin Garret is an amazing songwriter who co-wrote “Pray You Catch Me” on Beyoncé’s album Lemonade.

He came to me, played this song and I felt like it fit what we are doing on the album.

He’s super super dope…. Everyone was so proud, oh my god.

And we’ve been meaning to get to the studio and get something done, and so finally we have this song.

I’m Jamaican so it was like, Oh my god, perfect vibes. I’m also really in love with Afrobeats music.

I met Wizkid and we’ve wanted to work with each other for a long time, and I just felt like it was the right thing to get him on the song.
